Sightings from Navigator 4, 10

Jose Manuel CapulettiAristos, an independent journal on art scholarship and criticism published by Louis Torres and Michelle Mardar Kahmi, has created a Web page on José Manuel Capuletti (1925-1976), Ayn Rand's favorite twentieth-century painter. The page contains a brief biographical sketch of Capuletti, along with links to other Internet resources (some of which are in Spanish) on the artist. An annotated bibliography is also available. It can be found at http://www.aristos.org/capulett.htm.

Rand wrote a brief article on the artist, entitled "Capuletti," that was published in the December 1966 Objectivist. In commenting on his art, Rand says:

The sense of life projected by Capuletti's work is that of a man who is in love with life, with the earth and "everything that's in it." To him, life is a magnificent adventure with discovery: things are fresh, important, significant, because he sees things for the first time. It is as if a man's eyes were headlights and he were forever delighted that the things he saw were luminous, not knowing that the illumination came from him—which is the essence of being an artist.

Anyone with information about the artist, or the location of his work in private collections or museums, please write to Torres and Kahmi at aristos@aristos.org.
